I am going to be taking a protracted absence from everything karate for quite a little while.

Many of you guys know that I have an extremely close relationship with my daughter. I trained with her when she was a competitive swimmer and suffered through sessions with her when she tried boxing. I love that girl with everything I have and everything I did was about making her life better.

May 17th my daughter, my only child, died suddenly of unknown causes. She woke up, complained to a friend that is was too damned early to get up, and died without so much as a whisper. My only consolation was that she was not alone when she died but surrounded by several friends who cared for her and tried to save her.

I now sit here, re-evaluating my entire value system and indeed, my reason for life. I know, now that I face the loss of the only thing I truly valued in this world, that I certainly am not saying "Jeez, I wish I had spent more time at the dojo". All the time I spent on karate over the years could have been with family. Maybe I would have noticed something that would have made me take that girl to a doctor and get her a full physical every year. Maybe they would have found whatever killed her before it killed her.

You guys that are karate monks should think about what is really important in life.

Dear Mr. Fleming,

After reading your post I think I can speak for many, that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time.

Your post and stories of your life have always provoked much insight and self reflection. You are and will always be a loving father, no one can take that from you, this I am sure your family knows.

My sincerest condolences,

Frank Acevedo

Hi Bryce

I don't even know where to start mate.

My deepest condolences, there is not much I can do from this far away but, if there is anything , you know where I am.

Andi

Bryce,

My deepest condolences. I am very sorry to hear about your loss. Having children myself I can only imagine your pain. My prayers, for what that is worth, for you and your family.

Bryce,

Words really cannot help with the pain that you are feeling, but perhaps the knowledge that others are thinking of you in this time of grief may be of some comfort.

Geof.

I go along with all the sentiments already expressed by more eloquent people

May your daughter rest in peace and you find some relief in the good times you had together
